Hello, Im Helen
For as long as I can remember, caring for others has been part of who I am. I spent 27 years as a Paediatric Intensive Care Nurse, walking alongside families in moments of crisis and tenderness. Those years taught me about resilience, love, and the quiet power of simply being present when words aren’t enough.
When I retired from nursing, I knew my journey of care wasn’t over. I felt called to continue in a different way — through volunteering in both community and hospital palliative care, completing chaplaincy training, and serving as a Heartfelt volunteer for 16 years, offering photographic memories to families experiencing the loss of babies and children. Each of these experiences deepened my belief that no one should walk through grief or dying alone.
Becoming an End-of-Life Doula felt like a natural step — a way to bring together everything I’ve learned about presence, compassion, and dignity at life’s tender edges.
Outside of my work, I’m part of a blended family with two wonderful children who keep me grounded and remind me daily of what matters most. At home, I’m part of a blended family with two wonderful children, and I share my days with two much-loved Bouvier dogs (gentle Belgian cattle herders with big personalities!). They remind me daily of the power of loyalty, patience, and simple companionship, values I also carry into my doula practice.
At my core, I believe this work is about love, humanity, and walking gently beside others. It is an honour to do so.
